Mobile Marketing to Cell Phones
The use of cell phones has grown tremendously during the past few years, but marketers are still looking for ways to use mobile marketing successfully.
Two of the challenges are that cell phone users don't want to pay for marketing messages they didn't want and they guard their privacy. Another challenge in the U.S. is that so ten cell phone users are tamales with how to use SMS text messages. (If you use a Blackberry or Palm Treo 650 then you're used to typing with your thumbs, but when was the last time you saw someone use SMS on a traditional cell phone?)
However, these challenges to mobile marketing don't stop entrepreneurs from launching cell phone marketing ventures.
The Mercury News ran an article on
companies sending information about merchandise to cell phone users.
SMS is popular in other countries, so I expect the use of SMS to grow here in the U.S. In addition, cell phone companies are rolling out high-speed access, so it's likely that cell phone marketing will catch on soon.
Even if you don't have a good way to use cell phone marketing today, it's time to add this technique to your strategic marketing planning.
